Two Seemingly Opposite Methods: Becoming More Productive and Thriving on Less?

Today I am thinking about productivity and minimalism.  I have been studying both approaches.

It is like playing a game of tug of war, only I am the rope.  Should I persue a life of minimalism, or become an uber life hacker?

Thriving on less can feel like living less; a single day can feel like a marathon when in productivity mode.  Using just one approach would be incomplete, and I can’t do both at the same time, so what am I supposed to do?

Here is what I have come up with so far:

Just as the world has seasons, I believe that we have cycles… there are periods where we need to thrive on less, and others where we should flourish on more.  We are like a surfer, and the wave is life.  We can’t control the wave, we can only ride and steer on it.  The more we embrace the seasons in our life, the greater our experience becomes.

Do you know which season you are in?

Location: 47th Street, 8th Avenue, NYC, USA.  I am sitting by the window in a Pizza shop called Crave.  The people here walk fast and talk fast.  It feels like many people could step on a person that has fallen down and not even notice.  My perception is that people are thinking about what the world has to offer them in contrast to what they have to offer the world - what they want, rather than what they can give.  The streets, cabs, and city are dirty.  Many of the shops are also unkempt.  Being in NYC reminds me of how much I like the countryside.  There are some really awesome people in NYC, you just have to sift the the fast moving crowd to find them, or take the time to get those you interact with to take off their shields.
