Roadtrip Update - Memories to Cherish
It’s almost midnight. We got back last night around 10pm. I am glad to be home but definitely wish my holiday wasn’t over.
A big thanks goes out to: Benji’s Dad for letting us stay at his Bed and Breakfast in New Orleans; Vannessa for letting us crash on her couch in Boulder, CO; Vlad, well, for being Vlad in San Francisco, CA; Cedric for putting together a perfect weekend in Seattle that was only matched by the sunny weather; Katie for taking us out for tacos and letting us crash on his sofa bed in Denver, CO; and to Charleston’s rooftop bar for letting us drink in our PJ’s.
We drove over 8000 miles between June 24th and July 24th. Everyone we met was totally awesome!
Here are just a few of the many priceless moments I will cherish forever:- While Ash, Vlad, and I were wandering around San Francisco, Ash I guess found a good picture spot. She walked right out into the middle of the road into traffic to take the picture [her head and eyes placed firmly on the view finder with little to no concern for the oncoming traffic]. Fortunately, both Vlad and I were on-the-ball. Vlad grabbed Ash and pulled her back to safety. Classic Moment.
- On the last leg of our trip, we stayed in a Hotel in Charleston. It was getting dark. Our hotel offered free bikes. After a few drinks, we grabbed two, and set off for the local store to buy Champagne. We were singing Queen's "I Want to Ride My Bicycle" [well Ashley was, I just added some off-tone backup vocals]. Ash was also explaining how she hadn’t ridden a bike in a long time. Seconds later, she was careening off the path -- she almost hit a wall and ate concrete. Luckily, she caught her balance and managed to get her feet firmly on the floor before anything bad happened.
- This is a real classic for the memory books. We were lost and looking for Benji’s Dad’s Bed and Breakfast after coming home from downtown New Orleans on the trolley. I turn around and find Ash taking a picture of the very Bed and Breakfast we were staying at. Before I could say anything, Ash begins to tell me how it looks pretty as she walks away to continues the search. Priceless moment. You can’t help but love that.
- I somehow managed to get lost almost every day, even though I was using GPS. Religiously, almost every morning, I would make wrong turns for about 30 mins to an hour. Bless her heart, Ash would just sit there and let me figure it out.
- A classic Will moment has to be planting the seed for our friend Cedric to drive his 4x4 off-road and to park it in-front of a massive clay Troll under a bridge -- which he did!
